The Importance of an Elevator Speech

What is an Elevator Speech?

Networking during this time is especially important.  Before attending an event -- virtually or physically -- you need an elevator speech.  The “Elevator Speech” or “One-minute commercial” is a way to introduce and sell yourself to an employer. In one minute or less, you introduce yourself, demonstrate your knowledge of the company, express enthusiasm and interest, and relate your background to the company's needs.

Additionally, join a business/social network, such as LinkedIn.com, and create an online portfolio displaying your resume and accomplishments. New sites crop up often, so try to create as many profiles as possible on those who seem most credible. Do not share too much personal information though. Remember, this is about business, not sharing your family pictures.   Visit online career building sites, for they contain a plethora of invaluable information.
